Thelma Chalifoux - Community/Charities/Nonprofit - Michif Cultural and Metis Resource Institute
Thelma is the Founder of Michif Cultural and Metis Resource Institute, an organization devoted to educating on the history and contribution of the Metis, First Nations and Inuit people of Canada. Stemming from her profound cultural ties and a background in education, Thelma launched the institute to spread awareness and appreciation of Canadian Natives.
Utilizing strong determination and her ability to view a situation from more than one perspective, Thelma captured the attention of a grand audience in Ottawa. Evidencing her efforts are two major achievements, being the first Aboriginal woman appointed to the Canadian Senate and the first female Metis to receive the National Aboriginal Achievement Award.
Thelma is affiliated with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and the International Year of Women United Nations. On her free time, Thelma enjoys knitting and crafts.
